The bronze War Memorial at Sir Thomas Rich's, which commemorates the sacrifice of former pupils and staff in World War I and World War II, has recently been added to the Imperial War Museum's comprehensive national register of over 100,000 UK war memorials. The War Memorials Register includes memorials commemorating members of the armed forces, civilians and animals from all conflicts, and those who died in service. War memorials form an important part of the UK's cultural heritage. They reflect the changing face of commemoration as well as artistic, social, military and international history. Each war memorial presents a unique record of the past, as with no central organisation for their erection, the design and wording on the memorials were chosen by the communities who created them.
