Our Year 12 students recently enjoyed an extended extracurricular assembly, celebrating the wide range of clubs, societies and activities available across the School and encouraging students to make the most of opportunities beyond the classroom.

The assembly formed part of the School’s wider focus on extracurricular engagement, including the Tommy’s Award, which encourages students to build a strong record of leadership, commitment and specialisation in areas beyond the classroom. Students were also introduced to the breadth of ‘supercurricular’ opportunities available, from subject specialist enrichment and academic reading to entering external essay-writing competitions.

Mr Marks shared some of his own experiences of getting involved in extracurricular activities, before our Year 13 students, many of whom established societies themselves during Year 12, introduced the wide range of opportunities available to students.

From The Female Lead Society, music clubs, Maths Society and Engineering, to Growing and Gardening, MedSoc, History and Computing, and even a Rubik’s Club, there is plenty for students to explore. Students can also take on leadership and mentoring roles, develop their academic interests beyond the curriculum, and gain valuable experience and evidence of wider engagement for future UCAS applications.

The assembly was a great example of students creating opportunities for others and contributing to the wider life of the School, while encouraging younger students to explore their interests and get involved in the many opportunities available to them.
